Let me tell you a story.
I graduate Midwifery in 2007, took and passed the Midwifery Licensure Exam in Cebu City the same year. I was 19 years old then. Instead of pursuing the medical field as a midwife, I went back to Cebu and worked in the BPO industry as a call center agent. In 2009, I got sick that I needed to be confined at Chong Hua Hospital for 10 days. I love my job however there are things that I needed to do for myself. I've always wanted to take up Psychology. I remember during my senior year in high school, I'd always think about scouting for colleges and universities that offer the course.
To cut the long story short, I enrolled in AB Psychology in the second semester of A.Y. 2009-2010 at Saint Joseph Institute of Technology in Butuan City and I tell you, college at SJIT was very fulfilling even if I had to be a working student. Yes, I go to school in the daytime and work evening till dawn as an online customer support representative. Looking back at it now, I can't believe how I did all that to think that I also had a lot of extracurricular activities then from being appointed as Executive Secretary to the Supreme Student Government (SSG) President in 2010-2011, elected as SSG Vice President in 2011-2012 , interim SSG President for 4 months, and finally going back to my roots being the College Governor of the College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS) in 2012-2013. I was a busy bee til I graduated in 2013. My now 7-year-old son, Popoy, was a 4-month-old baby then. How I wish he is still that little *smooch smooch*
Right after graduation, I became the Guidance Counselor for SJIT's Basic Education Department. For one school year, I handled both the Guidance Counselor's office being the guidance counselor myself and teaching 3 subjects to Grade 5, Grade 7 and 4th-year high school classes. I feel blessed that part of my life was spent with young people in school and I am even more privileged being able to counsel some of them. Funny how I find the job thrilling when my priority after graduation is to immerse myself in industrial psychology specifically volume recruitment.
I may not be working in some company's HR department but God definitely gave me another opportunity that is expected to carry out the same role as HR. My job as a virtual assistant is a role that allows me to be part of the solution to the problem. I help improve the quality of life of the people I work with and that, for me, is equally the same as being in the HR department...well, with slightly different tasks ;)
What's your career twist? I'm sure you also have a story to tell. I'm interested to know so let's connect.
