Some people hate the idea of being locked down at home. It seems that the law mandating people to stay at home means opportunities being missed because of COVID-19 -- a pandemic that WHO declared on March 11, 2020 signifying its severity and global coverage. Although quarantines do not guarantee that people will not contract the virus, it is one way to effectively prevent the virus from jumping from one carrier to another.
Personally, I am affected too. Although I am an introvert and mostly at home, the fact that a lot of businesses are severely affected, affects me too. And for sure, you are too. But because of some people who give us ideas on how to be productive during this time, this stay at home order isn't bad at all (at least for some of us!). I would like to feature some friends and people that I know who are doing worthwhile activities at home right now.
Mommy May - Her love for plants makes her a perfect resource to ask when you are trying to create your own garden. With her, you don't have to put pressure on yourself about buying new gardening materials because she is into recycling too. She will teach you how to plant using a broken mug and she plants just about anything - flowers, herbs, vegetables, succulents, indoor plants, name it! She is very good at it, I tell you.
Blue Edward - Blue is one of those people who help others in times of need (may COVID-19 man or wala). Instead of waiting for the government to extend help, he is already out there, assessing what he can do for his friends who are risking their lives as frontliners. But there's something else that makes Blue busy at home - cooking and baking! As he would put it, swerte daw iyang ma-asawa and I agree!
Em-Em Aban - the person behind this blog. Inspiring women to be fit is her strong point. I think that her day doesn't end without having a good workout. Especially at this time where going to the gym is not a very wise thing to do, she keeps herself busy by doing exercises at home. How I wish (and truly wish) I can do that too. The thought of it already makes my body sore. The last time I did a simple 14-minute workout at home, I had a bad headache after!
Elda Opiso - Every day is a perfect time to nourish our spirituality. And now, more than ever, we have so much time in our hands to start feeding our souls with daily devotions. Instead of always looking for what's wrong in the world, let's see the brighter side of things. Not only it will give us positive perspectives, but it will also teach us to turn away from what is not doing us good. As they say, the planet Earth is healing because of the pandemic -- we now see clearer skies, less air pollution, sea creatures enjoying the beach, creatures living accordingly, and that the only thing that's not healing is the people in it. If we truly trust His plans for us, we know that this is a blessing in disguise.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea."
Psalm 46:1-2
Introvert Mom PH - That's me! If there's one constant activity that I do everyday or weekly, it's journaling. I may not be very creative but I am in my own way. Tap and unleash your inner creativity, play with colors, play with your penmanship, learn calligraphy, use your stickers! Follow me on Facebook and let's share ideas.
There's so much to do at home. If you're unsure, start by examining yourself and ask what you want to do that you were not able to do in the past or the things that you'd like to try because I tell you, this is the perfect time to do it. Ideas are limitless like the sky. Why not try either of the following:
explore dishes and different recipes
make a gratitude journal
blog your thoughts
experiment with homemade skin care recipes and see what works on your skin
head a donation drive online
learn how to play a musical instrument
play games with family at home (charade, Q&A, chess, bingo, etc)
de-clutter your room
talk with friends virtually
host a webinar/online class
clean the fridge
organize your closet
sit down on unfinished projects
draw, make DIY accessories to be given away to your pamangkins
and so on...
Let's not allow the fear of uncertainty envelope us but please do your share in the community. Stay home when you don't have work outside, practice preventive measures with your family and share only verified info around with your friends (online and offline). Be creative and be productive! After all, we have each other. I have no doubt in my heart that we can do this.
What's your quarantine story? How do you keep yourself busy at home?
